The Toy Company 1.0

I instructed and facilitated this project for my 12th Grade Economics class at Lucerne Valley High School.  Under my direction, students in small collaborative groups created a toy company, developed a business model and plan, produced a sample product and designed a marketing strategy.  During the initial group collaboration phase, students came up with ideas regarding the type of toy they wanted to produce and began developing a logo for their toy company.  They also began the process of assigning different tasks to their fellow group members.

Students assigned group members various tasks and responsibilities.  They proceeded to write a proposal and conduct initial design for the product.  These proposals included a description of the toy, what it was to be constructed of, a project cost analysis, and a concept drawing.

After the group’s proposals were reviewed and sent back for collaborative discussions, changes, and corrections, each group began the task of creating and producing an original name and logo for their toy company, as well as designing and manufacturing a concept/prototype version of the toy they wished their company to produce.  This unit of project-based instruction was completed over a six-week period and included instruction and experience in:

Project Collaboration
Analysis
Decision Making
Cost Analysis
Budgeting
Time/Resource Management
Concept Proposal
Critical Thinking
